Year 1

Welcome to Spring Term in Year 1

We’re looking forward to an exciting Spring Term in Year 1! This term will be packed with fun learning experiences, creative projects, and plenty of opportunities to explore new ideas. From hands-on activities to exciting topics that spark curiosity, we can’t wait to see our children grow in confidence and develop their skills. It’s going to be a wonderful term full of discovery and enjoyment!

Spring Bookshelf

During Spring term in Year 1, we will read a variety of inspirational texts where we will explore the character traits of kindness, citizenship, integrity, curiosity, bravery, and gratitude.

  • In our first text, ‘The Lion Inside’, we will discover what it means to be brave and being able to have a go at things even though they may seem scary. In history, we will explore the life and work of Amelia Earhart and The Wright Brothers while considering their significant contribution to the world we live in today.
  • Next, we will immerse ourselves in the story of Pinocchio learning about the importance of honesty, responsibility, and making good choices.
  • In geography, we will be identifying the four countries of the United Kingdom and their capital cities; comparing the countryside with the city and using maps to identify where we live.
  • In science, we will learn about animals, caring for the planet and seasonal changes. We will use our Bookshelf text ‘Seasons’ to create a report on the seasons practising using capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and much more.
  • In RE, we will continue to develop our knowledge on the teachings and beliefs of a range of different religions and look at how this is represented in society across Great Britain. We will talk about what it means to belong to a faith community.
