Welcome to Autumn Term in Reception

The Reception year is a very special part of your child’s school journey. We are excited to begin a term of exploration, learning and development. 

We strive to provide a unique, challenging and inspirational curriculum based on new and memorable experiences.  Establishing strong relationships with our pupils and their families is our priority at the beginning of the school year.  

During the year, we will work with your child to learn and understand their individual needs and support them in their learning and development. 

Our aim is for your children to become happy and confident learners and to carry their love of learning throughout their life. 

Autumn Bookshelf

Our curriculum will be inspired by our Autumn Bookshelf, filled with high-quality, engaging texts.  

Our Bookshelf will spark our curiosity and imagination, providing opportunities to celebrate our individuality, learn about our similarities and differences and develop new friendships.  

The first book we will be exploring is: When a Dragon Goes to School.

Autumn Learning at a Glance

Physical Development

Gross Motor skills – To use large muscle movements

Fine motor skills – To hold a pencil effectively in preparation for fluent writing

Communication and Language

To hold a conversation with their peers and adults.

To use recently introduced vocabulary.

Literacy

To engage in stories, rhymes and poems and use newly introduced vocabulary during their play.

To say a sound for each letter in the alphabet.

To write some recognisable letters, some of which are correctly formed.

Understand the composition of 5.

To begin to count and see the pattern of counting.

Understanding the World

Talk about the lives of people around them.

Important Information

  • PE will take place every Friday, although this may be subject to change, so please ensure your child always has their PE kit in school.
  • Your child’s book bag, containing their reading books and reading log, should be brought to school each day and will be taken out on Thursday and replaced on Friday.
  • We would encourage you to read with your child every day to develop their love for reading.
  • Mrs Whitehead will be available every day before and after school to answer any questions, receive messages and celebrate successes.
